Happy Flag Day!!! That’s right- only a few weeks before the 4th of July there’s a completely under-appreciated patriotic holiday! On this day in 1777 our founding fathers adopted of the Stars and Stripes as the official US flag, only about a year after they declared our independence from Great Britain.
In honor of flag day, and in preparation for the 4th, we decided it was high time to make a patriotic shenanigan. We decided to make these adorably patriotic strawberries we found on Pinterest (original pin). They were definitely meant as 4th of July strawberries, but we think they work just as well for Flag Day. So how did we make these white chocolate covered strawberries?
First, gather your ingredients. You’ll need strawberries, blue sprinkles and white chocolate candy dips. You could use white chocolate chips melted in a double boiler but the candy dips are way easier.
Melt the candy dips according to the directions on the package. We used the microwave at 50% power to melt ours. Once the chocolate is completely melted, it’s time to dip the strawberries!
Pour some blue sprinkles in a cupcake sleeve or small bowl. Holding the strawberry by the leaves, dip it in the chocolate. You’ll need to wiggle it around a bit to be sure it gets completely covered.
Now immediately roll the bottom part of the chocolate-covered strawberry in the blue sprinkles. Place the strawberry on aluminum foil to set.
There you go! We thought they were very cute, and a nice healthy patriotic snack option compared to the burgers, hot dogs and banana pudding we usually have. Plus they are just so quintessentially summery- they’re light and sweet and a perfect picnic or poolside BBQ treat!
Overall, this was a great shenanigan. Over the next few weeks we’ll be attempting all of our favorite 4th of July shenanigans; let us know which ones you want us to try!
Check out some of our other summertime shenanigans!
